We got to spend Fred's birthday eve and birthday with him...and the kids had a blast.
To the left are the kids playing a heated game of cosmic catch.

We also played a version of closed-eye tag of which I was unawares.

Some were more animated than others...

When we got back to Fred's place, the boys stood guard outside the house while the girls set up the surprise birthday party inside...

Celeste and Whitney had found a delicious black forest cherry ice-cream cake recipe, so Celeste gave it a go. But, the ice cream cake didn't travel well in the one-hour car ride. It started sliding off...so we put the stuff on top rather quickly. I think this looked soooooo much better than Mel's cakes.
I don't know if it is clear from the photo below, but Christian and Aimee bought Fred a box of Count Chocula, because Fred suffers from a severe case of "Count Choculitis." Note: this affliction is NOT covered by his health plan.

And, we rounded out the evening with a "Guitar Hero" challenge. Emily and I had a stirring rendition of "Rock this Town" by the Stray Cats, which probably garnered the most applause and points for the night. But, Fred insists that his late entry cover of "Free Bird" at midnight (after we were conveniently no longer there) scored more points. Whatever, birthday boy!
Oh, and if you want a good birthday story, ask Fred about how he talked a DC beltway cop out of giving him a ticket by using the, "You wouldn't give a guy a ticket on his 42nd birthday, would you?" defense. Well done, Fred. Well done.

Looks like a great time!!! Fred - Hope we can do something to celebrate when we get out there!!!
Wow. That looks like a great time. I sure wish I could have been there!
Happy Birthday, Fred! And I'd still have eaten that cake. It sounds heavenly. I say we give it another go!
Count Choculitis? Why would you say that, Hayes? Is it because you KNOW I love Count Chocula?
Whit... no comment on the cake. Sorry I betrayed you. I know yours you'd have been fabulous.
I blame Fred's freezer!
Fer-leste, those are my favorite flavors (as it 'twere). You could have put the whole thing in a blender and smeared it on the walls and I would STILL think it looked delicious.
Kudos for giving it a try!
P.S. I blame Fred's freezer, too. So there.
